I just love spring! As the flowers bloom and the weather gets gradually sunnier here in Oregon, it’s a really nice time to reflect on the new year, and look forward to warmer days and the rest of the year. These last few weeks have been intense with everything going on in the world, and sometimes, the idea of peace feels far away. Sometimes it’s important to take time to breathe, calm your heart, and focus on what brings you peace in your life. For me, I’ve always felt that music can change the world, connect us all, and it’s the thing in this world that brings me the most peace. Putting on a favorite song, or working on a new musical project helps me re-center all my thoughts, and focus on what I need to, and I hope listening to this playlist can help you do the same thing. I wanted to choose some songs that bring me those feelings of peace as I listen, and I hope you enjoy. :)

A Nathan Pacheco and David Archuleta collaboration feels like destiny with their illustrative voices and captivating emotions in every note, and they achieve every second of perfection in this Ed Sheeran love song. Nathan is a trained classical singer, getting his start with Yanni and can sing fluently in multiple languages, which lends itself to his flawless Italian as he sings Andrea Bocelli’s elegant verses. He expertly plays guitar as a rich cello and piano accompanies David’s celestial harmonies, and it’s simply breathtaking. Their tender vocals blend effortlessly to bring the feeling of tranquility to your ears.
Mat and Savanna deliver a moving performance of Homeward Bound, an impactful song that emphasizes the importance of growing and spreading your wings. Mat himself has stated what the song means to him, it’s been a lullaby he’s sung his kids for years, and reminds him of when the time will come when they “leave the nest.” Mat and Savanna’s familial bond shines in this song that highlights cherishing the time you have with the ones you love.
Aloha O’e
One of Hawaii’s most recognizable and beloved folk songs written by the then queen of Hawaii, Lili’uokalani, Aloha O’e was adapted into a lullaby for the famed Disney movie, Lilo and Stitch. Evynne Hollens’ soothing vocals feel as if you’re adrift in a calm ocean, as she sings sweetly in Hawaiian. A bright guitar plucks gently in harmony with her voice, as the message of the song, saying farewell to the ones you love, is heard through her soft dynamics.
Emotional cello plays the opening notes and McKenzie’s ethereal voice comes in like an angel from above. The comforting lyrics of Slumber My Darling feel warm and inviting, which makes for the perfect song to listen to after you’ve had a long day. The Hound + The Fox collaborated with Simply Three, a trio of string players, to allow the soul of this Stephen Foster classic shine in all its brilliance. Foster’s songwriting is what dubbed him “the father of American music,” and for good reason; this heavenly rendition of Slumber My Darling keeps the heart and beauty of folk music alive with their performances.
The second The O’Neill Sisters’ voices angelically blend in unison on those first verses, you’ll instantly feel as if you’ve been transported to Middle Earth.May It Bewas written by Enya for The Lord Of The Rings trilogy, illustrating the hard journey the hobbits take, but refusing to give up hope. The song invokes the emotions of peace and hope, as it serves as a musical reminder of keeping to that mindset of hope in your everyday life. Even when those difficult days come, listening to a song like this one can help even the hardest of days feel a little bit more at peace.
Annie Lennox’s incredibly powerful Into The West, also written for The Lord of the Rings, is a dreamy and amazing tribute to both Lennox and the movies. Peter Hollens’ warm solo overlays intricate layers of harmonies, as you hear the hobbits’ journey come alive in your ears. The vivid storytelling is so present in this arrangement, as a wave of emotions rush over you; the sorrow and acceptance of love, loss, and life are present in this passional blend of dynamic voices.
