As fall comes fast around the corner, as the leaves start to change colors, and kids start going back to school, I wanted to compile a playlist of songs that feel dear to my heart. Each song reminds me of autumn in some way; the warm colors, the vivid leaves, the toasty, cozy feeling you get in your chest as the season begins to change. These songs are perfect to play as you say goodbye to the kids as they go back to school, as you bake yummy fall treats in the oven, and as you contemplate the fun-filled summer ending.

Landslide

This instrumental version of one of Fleetwood Mac’s biggest hits is sure to bring you comfort and joy in the upcoming fall season. This song has always been a fall staple, with its gorgeous lyrics and soothing melody. Turning the song instrumental only adds to that feeling of nostalgia and solace one gets when they listen toLandslide. Marnie and Patrick Laird’s playing creates a vivid landscape in your mind, so sit back and enjoy their sentimental take on a classic.

      I Can Only Imagine

BYU Vocal Point’s talented group always delivers inspiring, uplifting, and absolutely breathtaking covers, and their version ofI Can Only Imagineis no different. The boys’ voices are at an all time high with this song; each harmony is layered and complex, and the soloists belt with ease and emotion. Listen closely at the 1:15 minute mark: the boys create a textured sound with dissonant chords that blends beautifully.

It Is Well With My Soul

David Archuleta and Peter Hollens come together to perform a heartwarming and impressive version of the famous hymn,It Is Well With My Soul. David’s soft, whispered vocals pair well with Peter’s rich, sonorous one as the two harmonize on the opening lines together. David’s voice gets stronger with each line, and both of them express strong emotion in every note they sing. Fun fact: while the editing of the video makes it look as though they’re in the same church, the two filmed this remotely and aren’t even in the same state!

              I’ll Fly Away

GENTRI delivers all the tender feelings in this amazing cover ofI’ll Fly Away, a classic hymn that was popularized in the 2000 film,O Brother, Where Art Thou? Their inclusion of a gentle guitar plucking and swelling strings gives the song the feeling of flight, as if you’re flying away from all life’s troubles. Their stunning vocals paired with the song’s warm message of flying away to a better life that awaits you makes for this song the perfect one to listen to on these brisk autumn mornings.

                    Tired of Being Alone

Al Green’sTired of Being Alone is one of those classics that get stuck in your head, and HUNTER’s rendition is bound to do the same. Her buttery vocals can soothe even the most restless soul. Every word and note is filled with emotion and care, and the message of the song sticks with you, as she paints a story with just her voice. At a minute and fifty seconds, she comes in again, harmonizing with herself, adding the song’s rich texture.

                          Be Thou My Vision

Be Thou My Vision is an old Irish hymn that paints a picture of new life. The ladies of BYU Noteworthy perform the song alongside a talented violinist, their sweet harmonies ringing like bells in the air. Their voices are pure and heavenly sounding, as the violin playing gives the song a real authentic Irish feel. The entire music video is gorgeous to watch, as it looks like they filmed in a castle of some sort!

                                Here Comes the Sun

Charming, easy to listen to, and enchanting are always the words that come to mind when you listen to any The Hound + The Fox song. Their rendition ofHere Comes the Sun is absolutely beautiful; with McKenzie’s soprano harmonies and Reily’s gentle guitar and lively mandolin creating such a comforting sound. The two always sing together so easily, their love for each other is clearly apparent in every note and glance.
