This Father’s Day, our team here at Legendary Vocals wanted to go a little in-depth on the history of Father’s Day and honor our Legendary Vocals fathers!
Father’s Day didn’t become a federally recognized holiday until 1972! While Richard Nixon is the president who signed off on it federally, it was recognized and celebrated as early as 1910! The popularity of the holiday surged during WWII as a way to honor the many fathers who were across seas fighting for their country. Today, Father’s Day is always celebrated on the third Sunday of the month, and this year, it falls on June 19th (which is a cute little Easter egg, as the very first Father’s Day ever was also celebrated on June 19th!)
We have many fathers here on our artist team; Peter Hollens, Patrick Laird of Brooklyn Duo, Reilly from The Hound + The Fox, Mat Shaw, and Nathan Pacheco!
Here's a list that has some of our team’s favorite, hand-picked songs that are an incredible representation of each father and their love and devotion to their children and family!
Nathan’s incredible rendition of You Raise Me Up is filled with shots of his family, highlighting how they raise him up with their love and affection. Brooklyn Duo dedicated their cover of Mariah Carey’s Always Be My Baby to their newest son, a tribute that is well fitting and so sweet; you can hear the undying love Patrick has for their family in every note he plays. Mat Shaw’s touching cover of Dream Big with his daughter Savanna is actually dedicated to his dad; his father had asked him to perform this song with Savanna, and it’ll quite possibly move you to tears to see how close and impactful their relationship is.
Finally, the last two songs are actually both original songs dedicated to their children!! McKenzie wrote the song Little, and hearing Reilly and McKenzie perform it is an emotional whirlwind! Their lyrics are tender and emphasize how hard it is as a parent to see your child grow up and having that desire for them to stay little. Peter’s original song, Ashland’s Song, is a stirring and poignant piece of music that Ashland will surely look back on fondly as he continues to get older. The lyrics and the music are clearly so personal to Peter as his relationship with his son is shown in every part of the video.
Today is a day to celebrate the people in your life that make today so special. I hope this playlist helped you reminisce the great times with your dad or the father figure in your life. Happy Father’s Day! :)
